The Sativex Scam part 2.5

    The Sativex Scam part 1

    The Sativex Scam part 2

    Misinformation, Propaganda, Untruths And Lies.

The title of this piece reveals that it is an extra.  I had intended to get to the scandalous untruths being promoted by GW Pharmaceuticals a little later in this series but events have overtaken me.

In the Manchester Evening News, the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Daily Mirror, GW has been promoting the untruth that Sativex “does not get users high” and patients do not experience the “euphoria associated with illegal recreational use of cannabis”.

    These are bare faced lies.

Each one of them will be the subject of a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission.  I am also investigating the possibility of complaints to the professional bodies responsible for the accreditation of the doctors and scientists behind this misinformation.  There may also be an opportunity to question this false information being provided to investors and shareholders in GW Pharma.

I have tried Sativex myself.  Four sprays, the recommended amount, produces a “high”, easily recognisable as the same effect as from high-CBD varieties of cannabis.

It took me less than an hour to obtain the following five testimonials from other people who have used Sativex.

“I am prescribed Sativex and can confirm that I get a body high from using it, not as much as a pure joint filled with just pure cannabis, but it does effect the way I think and the way my body feels.” Desmond Humphrey

“I sprayed Sativex 4 times under my tongue, as first I could taste the mint flavour, however the overbearing taste of the cannabis soon came through and it certainly tasted like real cannabis. The effects came on quite quickly and within half an hour I felt like I had eaten a very strong space cake like the ones sold in the coffeeshops of Amsterdam. In other words, I got very stoned.” Chris Bovey.

“Sativex affects me in the same way as Bediol, the high-CBD medicinal cannabis from Bedrocan, the Dutch government supplier.  Of course it gets me high.” Clark French

“Proper medicinal grade herbal cannabis works best for my spinal injury but Sativex is OK.  It helps with the pain and gives me the same relaxing effect.” Jim Starr

Upon two sprays under the tongue, I admit I felt nothing, that is until after around an hour when I could feel the effects slowly creep up on me. Colours got brighter and ideas started flowing just like when I smoked herbal cannabis. Things felt better and more interesting than usual and I found myself giggling at the smallest of things. To summarise, I was high. Yumita Yumara

However, astonishingly, the conclusive proof of GW’s deception, comes from its own documentation.  The Sativex Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC), a statutory document, on page 6, item 4.8 reports that “euphoric mood” is a common side effect.

    I rest my case.

I would love to hear someone from GW Pharma try explain the difference between ‘euphoria’ and.. well.. ‘euphoria’… maybe now that GWP can say it, other pharma companies can say there is a difference between the “euphoria” of diamorphine and Heroin.. or Desoxyn and crystal meth. Amazing at just how acceptable these ‘nasty side effects’ are if they have a corporate brand name on them.. such a con.

GWP up by 2.95% today amazing what a bit of misinformation will do.  Is it possible to find out how many MPs (and families) have shares in GW and who they are.  Would a FOI request get this information or are their ‘conflicts of interest’ details listed online somewhere??

    • Cshaws

Thinking about it, isn’t this a trading standards, trade desciptions act issue.  Are companies legally allowed to publicly misrepresent their goods this way?

    • http://www.peter-reynolds.co.uk Peter Reynolds

It could be.  That’s a good idea.  Any work you can do to check it out would be appreciated.

    • http://www.peter-reynolds.co.uk Peter Reynolds

Yes, I would like to know cabinet and shadow cabinet (GW got its licence under Labour), Tony Blair, Home Office civil servants and their nominees – who has GW shares?

    • Cshaws

I’ll do some browsing tomorrow and see what I can find

    • Cshaws

I think I’ll try the FOI route and ask if this information is available in general terms i.e. Do MPs declare their financial holdings (shares, stocks etc) when taking up position and if so can I get a copy & in specific terms  GW holdings.

    • Cshaws

      Ask ‘em

The key words here are ‘direct or indirect’ and ‘by whatever means’ hmmmm

      Trade Descriptions Act 1968
Trade description.(1)A trade description is an indication, direct or indirect, and by whatever means given, of any of the following matters with respect to any goods or parts of goods, that is to say—(a)quantity, size or gauge;(b)method of manufacture, production, processing or reconditioning;(c)composition;(d)fitness for purpose, strength, performance, behaviour or accuracy;(e)any physical characteristics not included in the preceding paragraphs;(f)testing by any person and results thereof;(g)approval by any person or conformity with a type approved by any person;(h)place or date of manufacture, production, processing or reconditioning;(i)person by whom manufactured, produced, processed or reconditioned;(j)other history, including previous ownership or use.

On my first day with Sativex, after having several weeks without any other form of Cannabis, I had a total of 9 applications, [sprays].
I felt ‘something’ but I sure had to think about it. The fact that Sativex has equal CBD and THC is, I am sure, beneficial to some, however, it has not been as beneficial to my muscle spasms as a certain strain i was growing prior to being arrested.
The Endocannabinoid system must surely be different in each of us, so it surely means that each of us have different needs in relation to amount of CBD and THC we need etc.
This is the reason prohibition, at least for medical use, must end.

Like you Peter I also noticed that the BBC report on the same subject did not include the lies, so where do they originate the newspapers? or GW?

I tried trading standards and got fobbed off , i then tried the medicines and health care products and regulatory agency and they wernt bothered either so i have registered a complaint with the General Pharma council ( 0203 3653603 )  on the grounds that sativex is made from skunk and people are not being made aware that our Government holds the view that skunk induces psychosis and is letting this company sell sativex , and claims that sativex cannot get you high when it clearly does and there is a clear risk to peoples health . Im all up for sick people using sativex but i can play the government at their own skunk game and so should everyone else here .

      Cannabis for Autism
129278350 x 0.9875-0.2975 = £89,202,061.50As at 22 mar 2011. You get my drift? Not a bad profit for the sake of flipping a legal fiction. When you see the profits available to individuals in this way, is it any wonder that cannabis can be reclassified so easily and nonsensically from the perspective of a public observer?I’m not saying that there was any impropriety, just the way the numbers and dates appear to match quite well. Nice :)

Thanks for exposing the hypocrisy and the waste of resources when we have to use a pharmaceutical when we would be better baking or using an oil etc. made from dried plant material.

    • alan.

If its any help dc held a press conference in cardiff after his visit to GW, I swear he nearly choked when saying the word ‘plant’ near the end of his speech.
I also posted a comment on the your freedom website, which never got allowed, around the same time asking how many shares dc has in GW pharma.

Daily Mail today : “At a month long trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, prosecutor Bill McGivern told jurors: ‘This was taking cannabis production to a level of sophistication never before seen in the United Kingdom.’This was organised along almost military lines.
‘It required investment in time, planning, machinery, substantial amounts of money and not least people to operate the business.”
”………level of sophistication never before seen in the United Kingdom”!!! Maybe Mr Bill McGivern should pop round to GWs place and check out their set up –  I’m sure they have more than 297 plants and have also invested in time, planning, machinery, bribery (sorry, I meant money) and people. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2035457/The-subterranean-cannabis-factories-protected-petrol-bombs-branded-sophisticated-UK.html#ixzz1XTdzYRMd

Surely GW’s progress in this area (no
matter how apparently corrupt) could also be seen as a positive?
Perhaps one of the main hurdles to be overcome in encouraging the free use of
cannabis for people who need it, is the ignorance and stubbornness of this nation?
In which case, a socially accepted medication based on Cannabis may actually
contribute positively towards a general acceptance of the drug by the people
      and governing bodies.

GW Pharma are a business out to make
money at the end of the day, so whispers of corruption surprise me no less than
hearing my local MP has claimed expenses on his mother inlaws car. However they
have also been the catalyst in some of the most positive press on Cannabis, certainly
      in my lifetime.

There may be benefit from looking at
the bigger picture, as sometimes things don’t happen over night, and I feel widespread
social acceptance will do more for this cause than shooting down an apparently
corrupt company. However, this is merely my opinion, and I would always encourage
everyone to draw their own conclusions.

GW is partners with Bayer. Bayer is facing a trial for systematic human rights abuses for promoting dangerous pesticides including paraquat. Here’s a link: http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_analysis/1122020/monsanto_bayer_and_dow_face_trial_for_systematic_human_rights_abuses.html

      Misinformation, Propaganda, Untruths And Lies.

yes it seems to be,i find ‘any’ 3rd party or offical sources to substantiate any of this as either relevant or true.

So now the legal pot activists are complaining about people getting stoned from legal medical pot that the legalMedical pot supplier said would not get them stoned..

too weird for me guys..maybe the Sativex folks played down the effect of the THC levels to help get it past the regulators…and its common in medical Canabis tinctures to try and level out the THC/CBD levels more equaly than u get in most pure plant based combinations
